Argentina: Mountains - La Falda

a Falda, and the Stay.
The Summit is in the Valley of Punilla on the foot of hills "El Cuadrado" and "La Banderita", to 653 mts. of height.
Their primitive inhabitants were the Comechingones. These groups lived to both sides of the mountain ranges of Córdoba, from Cruz del Ejé to the proximities of Achiras.
Unlike all the other native populations, the Comechingones was bearded men. Comechingon means "descended mountain range or hides". For that reason the Spaniards thought that they were called Comechingones thus, the word step to mean inhabitants of the Huecos or the Cuevas, because they lived in excavated caverns for that reason or natural caverns. Two types are known houses first was constituted by semiunderground caves. The ceiling showed over the surface and it was constructed with branches and straws. In these caves several families lived, which gives an idea us of its great size.
The second class of house was observed by the Spaniards in its incursions practiced during the months of heat. It is presumed that the Comechingones let in summer the semiunderground caves to go to inhabit the natural caverns or eaves that offered the mountain ranges to them, to be to them fresher.
The form to almost dress era same in men and the women. They used long shirts, woven with vicuna wool, calls and guanaco.
They lived on agriculture, the cattle ranch and the hunting. They cultivated maize, porotos and quinoa. They took advantage of the carob bean and chañar. With the carob bean fruit they elaborated patay, a very flavorful bread species that still is made.
Like good hunters, they ate the meat of the deer, the guanaco, the hare, vizcacha, the ñandú and others. They were dedicated to the raising of the wool cattle.
The Skirt does not have date of foundation, since its origin is the product of the afincamiento of Spaniards who were the first landowners of place.
The first antecedent is the 27 of June of 1887, when Mr. Biallet Massé buys to Mr. Borromeo Luna the stay La Falda, then Biallet Massé changes to the name by stay La Zulema in tribute to its woman, granddaughter of prócer Francisco Laprida.
In 13 of March of 1889 Mr. Carlos Ruiz buys the stay La Falda. The 11 of June of 1890 passes to hands of Julio Cesar Caraffa through purchase and the 21 of Julio of 1892 acquires La Falda, Mr. Jaime Sandal.
In 1892 the railroad arrives, until Chapel of Monte and the following year the Stay happens to hands of Mr. Casio Lanari.
Mr. Roberto Balhke expert of the subject hotel profession, buys the stay La Falda in 1897 and begins the construction of the Edén Hotel the one that is inaugurated just in 1898.
To impulse of several neighbors of the zone, between whom the Eichharn brothers stand out, from 1936 many works and ways were done, being created the summery conditions for the radicación of hotels and residences. In 1914 it is qualified postal, precursory mail of the mail.
The municipality is believed in 1934, and was its first intendant Ing. Jorge Copello. The 6 of December of 1969 La Falda, the character of city is conferred to him to Villa.  |
