Argentina: North - Tinogasta

t is situated by the right hand of Abaucán river, at 1,500 metres above sea level and 279 km. away from the capital city of the province.
This is the furthest site to the west of the province. One can get there by plane to San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca City and then by car through Nº 38 or Nº 60 National Roads or through Nº 45 Provincial Road.
Coming from Chile , the tourist can get through Paso de San Francisco, a bioceanic road that crosses the international frontier to the neighbour country 250 km away from the town and which is an interesting alternative to choose due to the attractive landscapes on the way.
To the north, it borders on the Rock of Falso Azufre , on the Mountains of Buenaventura and to Portillo de Robledo and Coruto sites; to the east borders on the Mountains of Fiambalá where Morado, Alto de Volcán and Fraile Hills are found.
To the south, Tinogasta borders on the bed of Salado River and on the Hills of La Cañada, Portillo del Calvario and De las Piedras Bolas; to the west borders on De La Cruz Hill, La Ollita Hill, Pabellón Grande, De Ovando, and La Salamanca Hills.
The temperature in this region of the country is very nice , being the maximum registered temperature in Summer 33º C and the minimum 19º C, while in Winter temperatures range from 21º C to 2º C .
Tinogasta is a town of diaguita origin, and the word comes from Kakana language meaning "Tino"- Meeting- and "Gasta" - Town-, that is " Town meeting". It is currently one of the most important towns in the west of the province.
In the surroundings, there are big vineyards, olive plantations, farms and alfalfa fields which are the support of the regional economy and can be visited in agrotourism tours.
Due to the geographic and climatic features, Tinogasta provides the tourist with the chance of experiencing adventure tourism , photo safaries or relaxing in the mountain.
"Dr. Guillermo Rafael Alanis" and "Tulio Robaudi" archaeological museums show valuable pieces to know.
In the surroundings of Tinogasta town, there are two thermal springs called "La Aguadita" and " Fiambalá" with natural pools having temperatures that range from 70 to 38 grades.
Among other places to visit , the tourist is suggested to go to Troya Ruins or Copacabana.  |
