Argentina: North - Cafayate

afayate, the cradle of the Folclore.
Cafayate is a voice of different origin quichua to which they assign etimologias to him: Cajón de Agua, Gran Lago and Lago del Cacique. Very next to their present location are the ruins of Tolombon, center of the diaguita, pre-Hispanic population, in the center of the valley of Santa Maria, to 1,600 msnm, the foot of the mountain range of the Cajón. These ruins conform the discovery judged like more important of those than they have been made until today in the Argentine territory.
The ruins are composed by: the city itself; strength will pucará or; two broken by that it is arrived at will pucará, fortified by a complicated system of parapets and enclosures and the last one, constituted by a group of houses.

She was Doña Josefa Antonia Frías de Aramburu, widow of Don Ignacio Aramburu, mayor Jumps in 1768, who donated the necessary land located between Santa Maria and San Carlos for the foundation of the town of Cafayate. Just in 1840 Don Manuel Fernando de Aramburu like Patrono of that Chaplaincy and fulfilling the will of its mother who orders to Don Rosendo Frías the demarcation of the town.
She is so in the union of valleys Santa Maria and Calchaquí and in the gorge of the river of Las Conchas, between pretty views of hills Tres Cruces y Morales, on the foot of San Isidro, rise Cafayate,
In 1840 is made the definitive demarcation and in 1863 it is broken contact with San Carlos, whose jurisdiction belonged, being created the Department of Cafayate, by Provincial law of the 14 of November suscripta by the Governor Juan M. De Uriburu divided and in four parties: Lorohuasi, Yacochuya, Tolombón and Las Conchas.
In January of 1866 the first intendant in the person of Mr. Sigifredo Brachieri designates itself simultaneously that constitutes the first Municipal Council.
In 1875 the hospital is created; in 1896 the Bank of the Argentina Nation is inaugurated; in 1926 the first electrical usina settles that worked until 1945 and in 1959 the paving of the streets begins.
The present consecrated church the 4 of January of 1895 was work of the father Julián Toscano and she is one of the three that exists in America with 5 ships.
Cafayate, also is well-known as the cradle of folcklore. In 1974, the festival of important Folcklore is born by idea of Mr. Arnaldo Etchart but of the Argentine North Payo Sola to but the great figures of Argentine music. By the end of century XIX already counted on a population of 5,000 inhabitants and the arrival of the new century century follows its growth until the present time in that already counts with more than 10,000 in all the department, living 80% of this people in the urban area, is to say the town of Cafayate. The others are distributed in the towns of Tolombón and Las Conchas, that is moved away and the rest in bordering the rural ones of Lorohuasi and Yacochuya which they would conform therefore the original distribution of the department.  |
