Argentina: Atlantic Beaches - Monte Hermoso

The name Monte Hermoso makes reference to a dune that reached to measure 36 meters of height being visible to great distance, in which was known like Punta Tejada . Thi single point appeared in letters prepared by the expedition of Juan Manuel de Rosas to the Negro River in 1833. Originally the earth that today integrate Hermoso Mount, were yielded in the middle of century XIX to relatives of Don Juan Manuel de Rosas.
In 1879, Esteban Dufaur bought 4,000 hectares and entrusted to his Sulpicio son Esteban the task of organizing a rural establishment, considering his location of privilege in front of the sea. Towards 1910 El Recreo was in march the stay and began the task of forestación and dune fixation. In few years the stay was organized more La Loma . A fortuitous episode will give foot to the birth of Hotel of Madera que was inaugurated in January of 1918 under the inspiration of the same Esteban Dufaur. The mentioned episode consisted of the meteorological mishap that underwent the North American sailboat "Lucinda Sutton", loaded of wood, which is surprised by sudestada in neighborhoods of the Saturated Light. Before the event they must lighten the weight of the boat thus decide to throw to the sea the load and to avoid therefore the shipwreck. In front of the wood that the sea drags towards the beach, Dufaur acquires it and it uses it in the construction of the first Hotel on the coast. The villa did not stop its growth and in 1975 city was declared. As of that moment, their inhabitants agreed in the necessity to administer to their own resources and their possibilities. Finally, 1º of April of 1979 was created
municipality the urban Hermoso Mount and as of May of 1983 it denominated itself officially, started of Monte Hermoso.
Another pioneer and benefactor of the place were Don Antonio B. Costa, successor in the property of the hotel Monte Hermoso , since he was the one who had the progressive visions and intensified the task of forestación and construction of the villa, putting therefore the fundamental stone of the tourist city that he is today.  |
