Argentina: Buenos Aires - Tigre

|
here are only 32 km. between Tigre and the Obelisc. This spot in the north of Buenos Aires province is undoubtedly a piece of living history.
Colonization started here with the second foundation of Buenos Aires by Don Juan de Garay. In a document dated on 24th October 1580 is the record of the land distribution.
The name of the party is derived from an old story of jaguar hunters. It is said that in the region lived a couple of very famous and virtuous hunters.
Then these territories were gradually occupied by farmer, who lived with their families from the land´s products. In 1611 the Council designed 15 farmers resident in the area to cultivate wheat, thus originating a village which grew social and economically.
Tigre today is a destiny neither foreigners nor local people should miss.
But beyond all activities, its main attraction is the Fruit Market, a different, almost magic world.
The port has three inner harbours. From the first one leave daily excursions to the Delta in catamarans.
In the central harbour concentrate the store-motor boats which supply the inhabitants of the islands with the most varied products.
In the last harbour are unloaded the timbering ships full of poplar and willow trunks from the forested islands of the Delta.
In the port is the open market with streets full of the colors of rustic weaves, furniture and accesories made in cane and willow, delicious sweets and honey, brilliant flowers, and of course, all the variety of native fruit coexisting in absolute harmony. |
