Argentina: Buenos Aires - Sierra de la Ventana

Its name must to the peculiar conformation of the Cerro Ventana, that presents a natural opening in its summit. The Cerro Ventana is main the attractiveness of the zone with its 1,134 m.s.n.m. In the top, the window frames a unique landscape.
The native group that populated this zone with the province of Buenos Aires before the arrival of the spaniards, knows itself like Pampas, specifically the group puelche inhabited the region. Baptized with that name by the Araucanos his name it means "people of the east".
They were thin, with torn eyes and very the well formed and high bodies. They were recolectores hunters and. Guanacos and ñandúes were fed on, and later, with the arrival of the Spaniards, they ate horses. They lived in leather awnings maintained by branches.
These awnings were located near the forests to have the fruits by hand. Its clothes era of leather combined with pens, hoops of copper or silver (imitating to the araucanos) and painting in the face, arms and legs: in order to indicate duel, war, etc…

In 1879 the Government of Buenos Aires sells to Don Jorge E. Catty a field located to the northeast of Bahía Blanca, on river Sauce Grande, that Mr. Catty sells a as well Don Teófilo Bordeu. This last one divides them Willow in three equal lots with in front of to the Sauce Grande, with the purpose of using the fields for pasturing.
They happen through several owners, until in 1895 the lots happen to the power of Don Septimio Leishman that years later, sells to Don Dietrich Daniel Meyer, that in 1908 will sell earth corresponding to the Railway station.
Towards year 1903, the branch of the Railroad of the Sud is authorized, to Bahía Blanca, settling down therefore the station Sierra de la Ventana and shortly before the station Sauce Grande.
In 1904 begins the construction of the Club Hotel de la Ventana.
Don Dietrich Daniel Meyer is considered founding of the locality, the one that denominates Villa Tívolli Argentina (in tribute to the old Roman city in Tívolli) and like original date takes the 17 from January of 1908, since in that day it is made the sale and escrituración of the three portions of earth, of Villa Tívolli Argentina, to the gentlemen Eugh Evans Guney and Esteven D.
The 16 of September of 1912 the change of the name of the station Sauce Grande takes place by the one Sierra de la Ventana, and the station that took until that moment this name is changed by the one of the owner of earth bordering to the station, Mr. Saldungaray.
At the moment Sierra de la Ventana is formed by different districts and villas: Villa Tívoli, District Park Delfino, District San Bernardo, District Park Golf, Villa Arcadia, Vlle Hermoso and District La Cumbre...  |
